Second (and this is an incomplete summary), social and economic inequalities are to be arranged so that Rawls' theory of justice was set forth in his book A Theory of Justice(Harvard University Press, 1971). Since then it has been much discussed, and attempts have been made to improve and clarify it, not least by Rawls himself. One of those attempts at improvement is that of Martha C. Nussbaum (Women and John Rawls Theory of Justice – In his book “ A Theory of Justice ” John Rawls gives a hypothesis of justice, which depends on two standards. Rawls starts with the explanation that “justice is the first virtue of social institution”, implying that a decent society is the one, which is organized by the rule of equity. Rawls's two principles of justice in A Theory of Justice are the "greatest equal liberty principle," which states that individual liberty should be maximized as far as is consistent with everyone Justice, Harvard philosopher John Rawls (1921-2002) claimed, is the first virtue of institutions. Certainly justice seems to be the first concern of contemporary political theorists, and has been since Rawls published A Theory of Justice in 1971.
